We Got Issues?

I have seen more rhetoric and professed knowledge in the name of a flag and people’s right to marry in the last few days then I ever care to. I have reached my limit, and it’s not because I necessarily take a side with either topic one way or the other. No the fact is I’m largely indifferent on both matters. But just like those that have opted to choose a side, I have my opinions why I straddle the fence as well.

                First and foremost among them; I will not be forced into taking a side on anything. I refuse to be polarized and buy into either side’s hype on why their opposition is pro-this, or anti-that. Some have even taunted the possibility that if we let the moral fabric of our society continue to fray any more that the big bad government (or some other specter) will continue to legislate us out of our rights as U.S. citizens.

                It’s not enough to be confident or even happy…we as humans want to be right, correct. And we the people want to cajole others into believing what we believe, and if we can’t…well we simply turn up the heat; we’ll debate, browbeat, and if all else fails mock other's beliefs, all the while positioning our own as superior. In a case where all those tactics fail, people will cloud or confuse the issue. By and large I believe there is a great deal of grand standing on both sides of these two controversial issues.

                While voicing my own concerns on these hot topics is probably counter-productive to the point of my writings, I will give in to your curiosity; as if you’ve read this far into this article you are at least slightly interested.

1)       Gay Marriage being recognized in all 50 states: Great, good for them. Their newly granted right to marry does nothing to impact or infringe upon my own. I congratulate them. I’d go further to point out to those that oppose this change, that when last I checked marriage stopped being a “religious” institution when the government started to require a license and charge a fee for it.

2)       The Confederate Flag: This should not ever have to go into debate. It need not be about race, racism, preservation of history, culture or anything else. Anyone that flies this flag is flying the flag of a defeated country/army within the borders of the United States. History dictates this to be completely unheard of following any disposed threat to any country that’s ever been victorious after a military conflict.

                The world doesn’t want to be saved, hell it doesn’t want to be left alone. At best, it may want to be entertained. Frankly, I am simply tired of all the noise.
