I’ve decided to launch another series one this blog, and it should
come as no surprise that it involves drinking.
To
explain me and my interest in starting BarKeep, it’s quite simple; I like to
drink. I have no qualms about stating that up front. However, there’s certainly
more to it than that. I do enjoy a cold beer or whiskey on the rocks quite a
bit. Beyond that, I revel in bar culture as a whole. I love a place where you
can relax; be yourself, chat with the other patrons so they are no longer
strangers. The type of establishment where the bartender doesn’t have to know
your name, but remembers your favorite Stout, or the I.P.A. you thought was
vile. I’m drawn to the atmosphere; the
carefree noise of people having a great time, the music, and quite plainly
sitting at the bar and enjoying my surroundings.
If you’ve read the this far then you probably have guessed this space will be devoted to highlighting a
great deal of the bars, breweries and pubs that are here in the Phoenix area.
But wait there’s more!
As this blog grows and expands,
I wish to add not only assessments of the business’ staff and their products
from my point of view, but anecdotal tales (some real, some fueled by
imagination, and others fueled by spirits), interviews with owners, managers
and patrons alike.
My goal isn’t too terribly lofty in
my opinion: At its heart, it’s to give people a window into this amazing
cross-section of the night life that Arizona has to offer, all while
remembering not to take myself too seriously.
Along those lines I am no expert
mixologist, master brewer or skilled artisan chef. Quite the opposite; I’m a
guy with a regular day job, a mortgage, that also likes to write down my
thoughts and experiences. The mission is to seek out the best drinks, the best
brewers and the best pubs in Arizona.
