Best Burger Series - Harvey American Public House

This week’s entry into the best burger series belongs to none other than Harvey American Public House’s “Harvey’s Reuben”.

The Harvey’s Rueben has a unique style, one whose ingredients might attract a different following than those drawn to a traditional Reuben.
"Hold still for the camera you big, beautiful bastard."

Upon arrival the sandwich was presented well. Although, admittedly I felt a bit like a limp wristed weakling trying to position a sumo wrestler for a photo shoot while trying to get a picture that showcased the full depth and width of all it had to offer.  I am not kidding when I tell you that this thing had no less than a dozen layers of corned beef. Harvey’s website credits their corned beef to Boar’s Head, and I tell you it was simple, and delectable.  To take it a step further, I for one do not think of corned beef as being succulent, but this corned beef was in fact, succulent.

The Swiss cheese, dressing and slaw weren’t standouts, but that’s not to say they were in anyway bad. They just had the misfortune to be part of a Reuben that had so much going for it.

The bun however was a nice change from the norm, toasted but still soft and fresh. It capped off everything that made this Reuben great.  Get it; 'Capped off?' cause the bun sits on top of the Reuben? Ah, forget it...

Ok, ok, fine I’ll come clean. I feel like such a fraud. This is not a burger. At least not what most would consider to be the standard definition of a burger. It’s a Reuben. Or is it? Come to think of it, I see no sauerkraut and it’s on a pretzel bun rather than rye…it’s an enigma.

To be honest, I’m not sure what it is, except for damn good.
