It’s no secret that the internet is full of things to get
offended about, if you really want to get sucked into it that is. Also, it has
more than its fair share of misinformation. Though what I stumbled across
earlier this week is something that seemed far worse to me, an example of what I
might dub uninformation.
Let me explain…if information is “facts provided or learned
about something or someone”. I believe a vast majority of what’s on the
internet is “mistruths or misconstrued rhetoric churned out by something or
someone”.
However, let me back up. Under normal circumstances I rarely
do this but I am going to rant about something I came across on the web – God help
me I’ve sunk to the trolls’ level. I first saw this quote as shared by a friend
on their Facebook page. I attempted to trace back its origin to maybe an author
or other such source, but no luck:
"Some people don't love you, they don't even care about you.
They just want to stay connected to you. They love the benefits, so
they do the minimal...a little phone call here and there, just checkin' in,
thinkin' about you, etc.
What they are really doing is maintainin' a connection, so when they
need you, they still have a way in."
When Google-searched, the quote shows up on several various
administrator-ran fan pages on Facebook. Frankly, my opinion of this quote is
that its complete bullshit.
I’ll attempt to demonstrate my thoughts on why by breaking
it down:
"Some people don't love you; they don't even care about you.
this is not a revelation to those with common sense. The fact that a majority of people have
merged/distorted/cheapened the true meaning of friendship with showing up on some
asshole’s buddy list who you met 4 years ago at your ex-girlfriend’s Christmas party
and thinking that that person is your “friend” is to blame here.
They just want to stay connected to you. They love the benefits, so
they do the minimal...a little phone call here and there, just checkin' in,
thinkin' about you, etc. Technology has given us
a lot of things. Unfortunately, it has also given us the ability to avoid
potentially negative or awkward social situations by not having to respond in
person. A casual “I’m not going to make it” phone call has been avoided for
quite some time and turned into the “Sorry can’t make it L” text. Even that has become blasé, and it is now commonly replaced
by not responding at all. Trust me, if someone texts you they care. If some
antiquated soul picks up a phone and calls you they are probably in love with
you.
What they are really doing is maintainin' a connection, so when they
need you, they still have a way in."
Get
the fuck out of here! Really? Who the hell do you think you are? Moreover, what
clout and elevated social status do you bring to the table where people are
using you for personal gain? Oh, wait…what’s that? You’re just a regular sorry
ass work-a-day slob like the rest of us? That’s what I thought.
Anyhow, my point in rambling on about this is to remind you
of two things:
1)
Friends-true friends- are in short supply the world over.
·
If you honestly feel mistreated step back and examine your
relationship with that person, talk to a 3rd party about it.
2)
Oh, and don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
Rant over- for now…
